Fall Fling Fundraiser a Resounding Success

A festive atmosphere for a good cause.

On October 18, Family Promise hosted our Fall Fling Cocktail Buffet and Auction at the spectacular Canoe Brook Country Club in Summit, New Jersey to raise funds and awareness for the fight against family homelessness. More than 120 friends and supporters attended in support of Family Promise and to celebrate the work we are doing both nationwide and locally.

The evening kicked off with a silent auction cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a delicious buffet. After dinner, Family Promise Board Chair Cary Hardy introduced our Founder and President, Karen Olson, who spoke of the organization's mission and recognized the invaluable work of our more than 160,000 volunteers across the country that are helping to make a difference every day.

Maureen Keleen, a former guest of our Hunterdon County, New Jersey Affiliate next shared the story of how Family Promise helped her recover from the devastation of an abusive relationship and the resulting homelessness, while helping her remain strong for her 5-year-old daughter. She summed up what Family Promise means to so many parents and children in need, “My mom always used to say, ‘It takes a village to raise a baby, Maureen.’ I know what that village means now. I can’t tell you how many people have helped Olivia and me. We spent five months in the program and my daughter tells me now that she didn’t even know we were homeless at the time.”

Watching the big board as bids to fund new Affiliates climb.
Auctioneer John Terrio took center stage next and conducted a spirited live auction which included vacations to Costa Rica, Deer Valley and Napa Valley, a five-course Thai dinner prepared at the winner’s home and a progressive dinner hosted by several Family Promise trustees. As the auction’s highlight, John opened the bidding for funding the development of new Affiliates nationwide. Thanks to the amazing generosity of our guests, four new Affiliates were funded through their bids.

In total, more than $285,000 was raised in ticket sales, contributions, sponsorships, underwriting and bids from both the silent and live auctions, making this year’s event our most successful fundraiser ever. And, just as important, it provided a wonderful opportunity to introduce Family Promise to many new supporters as we continue to grow.

We would like to gratefully acknowledge our sponsors for the evening’s festivities as well as the following event underwriters: Chubb Group of Insurance Companies; The Glenmede Trust Company; Point View Wealth Management; Shelley and Brad Olson; and The Other Fellow First Foundation.
