Family Promise Takes Flight in the Land of NASA

Case Manager Jessica DelGatto and Director Tara Pagliarini.
Welcome to Family Promise of Brevard County, on Florida’s Space Coast and home to NASA. It becomes the 10th Affiliate to form in Florida. Contrary to Florida stereotypes, Brevard County is not made up of primarily retirees: 22% of the county is below the age of 18 and 13% of those children are below the poverty line. During the 2000s it had a rapidly growing economy and surging house prices; however, in 2010 a third of all home sales were the result of foreclosure.

The biggest challenge in the area, and the state overall, is providing services for families who do not qualify for Emergency Assistance. The only family shelter in the area—which can serve 5 families at a time and only EA families—receives about 500 requests from families a year. FPNSB is serving those families.
