PetSmart Promise Featured on the Today Show

PetSmart Promise, a national partnership between Family Promise and PetSmart, Inc., the nation’s largest specialty pet retailer, was featured recently on NBC's Today Show.

Petsmart Promise will build on-site pet kennel facilities at selected Affiliate Day Centers, allowing guests of the program to keep their entire families—including pets—intact as they work towards sustainable housing and independence.

Our 5th Annual Family Promise Breakfast

Each year, 200 guests attend the annual Family Promise Breakfast to learn more about how we help homeless families achieve sustainable independence. This invitation-only event raises funds for establishing new Family Promise Affiliates across the country while providing support for programming and materials nationally. This year's fundraiser will be held on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the exclusive Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, NJ. For info, email Debra Miller, Director of Special Events, at dmiller@familypromise.org.

Welcome our Newest Affiliate: Great River, Minnesota

The Open House team in Great River.

Family Promise of Great River, in the area of central Minnesota between the Mississippi and Elk Rivers, becomes our fourth Affiliate in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Several people in the community recognized the lack of resources for families in the community; the only shelters for families were in St. Cloud or the Twin Cities. They began organizing in several years ago and forged ahead to try to provide help through their churches.

Welcome to Family Promise of Linn County

Director Becky Knudson (c) with trustees.

Family Promise of Linn County, Iowa marks our second Affiliate in the Hawkeye State. The need in Linn County, unfortunately, is great. As a result of the 2008 flood of the Cedar River which rendered much of downtown uninhabitable, the city is a landlord’s market and with about 500 children classified as homeless, the lone shelter that takes intact families is turning away as many as 10 requests a day.

Nearly 200 friends and acquaintances of Family Promise gathered at Baltusrol Golf Club on October 18 for a one-hour breakfast program called Our Promise to Children. They were in attendance both to offer support as well as to learn about how we help homeless families achieve sustainable independence.

Welcome to Bristol

Bristol Ribbon Cutting

Family Promise of Bristol, marks our 8th Affiliate in Tennessee as well as our 2nd in Virginia. Bristol’s main thoroughfare, State Street, is also the state line, and one can jaywalk from the Volunteer State to the Commonwealth and back. While hosts are in both states, the Day Center is in Virginia, which makes it officially a Virginia Affiliate.

Family Promise Continues to Grow in Florida and Texas

Flagler Ribbon Cutting

Family Promise of Flagler County opened this summer as Florida’s 10th Affiliate. Jim and Jackie Morelewicz, a couple who belonged to a local Catholic Church, learned about Family Promise not long before the 2010 Conference was held in nearby Orlando. They decided to attend and that gave them the inspiration and information to start the effort to create the program. They open their doors with eleven hosts, excellent Day Center space and a dynamic director, Darla Otey, who was trained by Brian Rosecrance.
