Affiliate Number 150: Family Promise of Muskegon, MI

Muskegon, Michigan is now home to our much-needed 4th network in the Wolverine State.  Michigan's unemployment rate is the highest in the country and Muskegon's stands at 22%.  A January count found 137 homeless children in the city and the city's sole shelter does not take intact families or older boys.

Family Promise of Cabarrus County becomes the 11th network in North Carolina. This was a particularly challenging effort, with leadership, funding, and fire code issues to overcome, but Board President Angela Orrock’s long-time commitment to the cause ultimately prevailed.

New Family Promise in Delaware County, Ohio

Family Promise of Salem County is the 15th Affiliate in the Garden State. There is no shelter for families in this rural county of 65,000 people, with those needing services having to turn to the state of Delaware or neighboring NJ counties for help.

Press Release: Family Promise Reports Staggering Increase in the Number of Homeless Children

SUMMIT, NJ, April 9, 2009 -- Family Promise reports that out of 45,000 homeless and low-income citizens served by their national Affiliate Network in 2008, 60 percent are now children, 46 percent of whom are five and under. The pioneering nonprofit also witnessed a significant increase in two-parent families (26 percent), including families with grandparents and grandchildren.
